A strongly worded letter has been sent by local Liberal Democrats to the Government urging them NOT to cap the 2009/2010 Surrey Police Authority budget as it will inevitably lead to cuts in frontline services.

Local residents are invited to Have Your Say in Sunbury on Tuesday 7th July, 7-9pm, at the Riverside Arts Centre, Thames Street, Lower Sunbury. These are the new events that are replacing the Local Area Forums that used to take place twice a year.

The County Council elections were a spectacular success for the local Liberal Democrats. A strong performance across Spelthorne was crowned by the election of two Councillors in the Lower Sunbury and Halliford and the Sunbury Common and Ashford Common divisions.

London Irish have told members and local residents of their intention to relocate from the existing site in the Avenue, Lower Sunbury to what is currently Hazelwood golf course. Although it is proposed that the Avenue site would be redeveloped, no plans for this have yet been made public.

The Government suffered a symbolic defeat when MPs voted by 267 to 246 on a Liberal Democrat motion to give all Gurkha soldiers equal right of residence in Britain.

At a recent Spelthorne Borough Council meeting Liberal Democrat Councillors led a debate on the shocking failure of Conservative-controlled Surrey County Council to run its Children's services properly. Unfortunately the Conservative majority group refused to criticise Surrey and voted against the motion.

The old Eurostar platforms at Waterloo are currently unused whist commuters have to suffer overcrowded trains and insufficient services. Why not sign our petition to make these platforms available to South-West trains and to provide an improvement in service?
