Urban open space under threat in Lower Sunbury10.17.27pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 21st Sep 2007 Spelthorne Borough Council is being asked to lift planning restrictions on the former Tennis Courts and St Paul's School Building Complex, The Ridings, Lower Sunbury. A request has been submitted to Spelthorne Borough Council to delete this site from the 'Area of Designated Urban Open Space' which lies behind the Benwell Meadow estate and Heritage Gate, Green Street. The site is approximately two hectares and includes low density, low rise school buildings. However much of the site is open space, affording amenity value to the surrounding houses. The need for open space here has become all the more essential as four high density developments have either been built or recently approved in this part of Lower Sunbury. Lifting the designation will make the site available for redevelopment. Spelthorne Council is consulting on this and other proposed changes to site allocations. Comments must be received by 25th October. Details of this proposal are available on Spelthorne Council's website via the link below. http://www.spelthorne.gov.uk/63_bigwood_chartered_surveyors__2_.pdf
