Campaigning for a better Spelthorne

Spelthorne Map

Local Development

Local LibDems are keeping a close eye on local planning and development issues.

Waste and Recycling Campaign

Spelthorne has the worst record for recycling in Surrey and far worse than all the adjoining Boroughs. Spelthorne Liberal Democrats are firmly committed to improving the facilities available and thereby increasing the levels of recycling.

We only have one environment and we must do everything we can to preserve it.

Gravel Extraction

Gravel extraction is a key issue for Spelthorne. Surrey is going through the process of updating and presenting its plans for the foreseeable future. These will have a profound impact on some areas of Spelthorne as gravel extraction creates noise, dust, traffic and alters the shape of the landscape.

The process for determining the sites for gravel extraction is complex and slow. Local Liberal Democrats stay in touch with the process and will publish information on this site at the key stages.

Spelthorne Day Centres Campaign

The ruling Conservative Executive is implementing its policies for changes to the services for older people provided by Spelthorne Borough Council. The Stenwell and Benwell (Sunbury) day centres are being "redeveloped". Both centres have been shut prior to re-development. In the case of Benwell the site is proposed to have 39 flats built on top of a much smaller centre.

The Liberal Democrats are completely opposed to the closure of any Day Centre

LibDems think these are a fundamental resource for the community. This is a moral as well as a financial issue.
